April is here, and the flowers...?
Getting ready to be coatless and mudless

Welcome to our April newsletter. So many things, but first off is getting our dogs ready to enjoy the weather. This means YOU enjoying the muddiness that April showers bring and 4 feet (or more) that need wiping when you come inside.

If you don't want to have a bucket of warm water near your door when you come home to wipe off those feet, we do offer Arthur's Doggie Paw Wipes that have the Vitamins A, E, Camomile etc. inside it. These smaller wipes are also great for giving a quick rub-down interim bath to smaller dogs. We have larger-sized ones for the larger canines.

With the Spring brings the happy-to-not-be-frozen-anymore bugs. We are investigating the healthiest ways to keep your dog (and cat that goes outside) free of mosquitoes and fleas. This will NOT mean that if you like to romp in the forest or high grasses, that you will be free of the ticks. Ticks are nasty, and we recommend seeing your vet about what works best in your own situation. So back-yard or free-tracking it?

Also, 'tis the season for playing - we'll have more toys in and treats coming in. :) More Sirius Snacks™. More Sirius Suppers™.

Speaking of our own cooking with human-grade and organic ingredients, Sirius Cooks also does "by request." Does your dog have an allergy to a specific protein, well, Harriet has made treats without any protein or protein broth. Birthday parties - we can make cakes, single- or double-tier. Sirius Suppers™ have also been made, and named, in honor of very special dogs for their birthdays. (Is Coco reading this?!)

The ingredients can be made more specific for a diet, or we can tell you why the ingredients (fruits, fennel, etc.) are in the foods. There is a rhyme and a reason for making the healthiest home-made cooking for dogs and cats out there. :)

First Seminar in May
Raw food ... so many issues, so many thoughts

With raw food becoming more and more available, we wanted to bring someone in who knows all the angles and healthy ways to feed raw to your dogs and cats. This will be in May, our speaker is knowledgeable AND entertaining. So don't expect a Ferris Buehler kind of classroom setting.

Now this doesn't mean that if you feed kibble or canned you're an irresponsible parent - OR that you wouldn't want to attend. Consider this a session where you can either have your notions acknowledged or you can have your raw-food mindset enhanced. It's another form of feeding.

Is there a difference in bone content in the different raw foods? Is there a difference in testing? Where does the raw food come from? Will the government be making new legislation for the raw-foody manufacturers?

Come with your questions and we'll be sure to keep it entertaining. You will receive another "set-date" evening email closer to the date in May.

Organic Food Show and Harrison Happenings
Sirius Cooks is on the tour!

The All Things Organic Food Expo is at the McCormick Center in Chicago from April 27-29th. This is a great place to meet all the cutting edge of Organic food distributors or manufacturers who use organic food. We like it to meet the people that make the organic products we use in our own cooking.

Thanks to Jennifer, owner of Baby Blend Tees, she has made it possible for some priviledged show attendees to come to our wonderful and cutting-edge stores on Harrison Street in Oak Park on Sunday, April 27th.

We are on the tour list with our presentation of organic beds, toys, foods, and of course, our own treats! Other than Sirius Cooks and Baby Blend Tees, Organic Food Expo attendees will be going to The Careful Peach Boutique and Majamas.

Also on that same day, April 27th, will be the Annual Spring for the Animals luncheon/fundraiser for the Animal Care League of Oak Park.  If there was ever a real time for cloning ... well, one of us will be here at the store, another will be at this very necessary fundraiser.

Also, May brings the "What's Blooming on Harrison" special event on May 16th through 18th. We will have special guests and even a pet masseuse. Stay tuned for more of what Sirius Cooks is planning for that May weekend.

Freebie toys
Thinking of chewies and crinklies

With all the new puppies out there, a quick chew-toy can be made out of a frozen towel. It's gentle on their gums and something cooler in the warming seasons. It can be washed (also, to be safe, leave out the softener) in hot water, or rewashed in hot water WITHOUT the soap. You can also twirl it and put it into freezer bags if you don't want a used chew next to your best frozen dinners/meats.

Kittens - there's nothing like a plain, brown paper bag for investigating and pouncing. Simple and easy.  Cat scratchers made out of box material, so picture a large box that you can cut apart and wrap around a wall-corner. "Priceless." Cellophane, that crinkles is also so attractive to a kitten/cat, we're going to have to think of a good way to market it. (only kidding!)

Thanks for all your support and keep on thinkin' healthy!
