You and Yours on Valentine's Day
Moooooooooore treats!
Yep. Valentine's Day is coming and just so you don't forget your fuzzy pal, we are making Heart-shaped Healthy Treats. The store is stocked with special Merrick Combination Gourmet Food packs for dogs and cats. For some special kitties - we also have super-special Lobster tail. All are in limited quantity.
We are really trying to keep this short - honest, so we hope to respond to more of the survey comments from y'all as the months go on. (Website - yes. Working on it. - julie)
Survey Results
We asked - you answered. :)
Thanks to everyone who took time to fill out our survey. It was great reading your comments - it was all anonymous, but some we were able to tell who they were from. (Thanks Joan (sister)! Maybe we will open a store in Barrington someday!)
We were asked to carry more healthy, organic treats that were less than $10. We have always looked for the healthiest product out there, and with that, unfortunately comes more cost. We HAVE cheaper healthy treats: Snooks Sweet Potato Treats: 8oz $8, Itty-Bitty Buddy Biscuits: $4, our OWN Sirius Snacks™ are all natural/organic for $5.00. We are also carrying the Plato line of treats which runs at lower price.
We will also be offering an email Sirius Suppers™ notification list. Send an email to: supper@siriuscooks.com with your email please.
For those who don't know about our Sirius Suppers™, we do our own home-cooking with meats, fruits and vegetables you'd buy for yourself at the local markets.
We design them for dogs (and cats of course!), making certain that they contain everything for a healthy meal. They are sent away to be tested at a Pet Food laboratory in Nebraska, and come back with all nutrition information.
We change up the menu everyday or every other day. We usually try to have one chicken, one fish, one meat, and one turkey supper available. Either in the fridge or in the freezer.
We use them with kibble (1/3 of our home cooking to the kibble, a bit of warm water to reheat the suppers) for our ravenous puppy Zoe. Our other two polite, adult dogs (Bear and Indy) receive just the suppers, sometimes with a dose of Make Yah Lean green beans thrown in for variety. Our cats Lily and Larkin also get a teaspoon of Sirius Suppers mixed in with their TikiCat.
They get variety. They enjoy the food and sing for their suppers.
Long story - but that's why we're called Sirius Cooks. (Sirius-the Dog Constellation) :)
The menu is on Cool Cat, who hangs in our front window.
We can make special diets on request and with your Veterinarian consulting with our holistic veterinarian, Barbara E. Royal, DVM.
Affordability and Health
We can't afford some restaurants
Money and health. It's a pain that the two seem to go together, when health should be possible for all. Without getting into a political issue, we understand that some of the food we carry could be considered expensive.
First, you have to know that we are concentrating on health and nutrition. Our store is small, and we were very picky about the food offered. Dogs and cats being individuals, we will also order a specific food for people when asked - and when we can purchase them. Some companies will sell to us, some won't sell to independents.
Second. If we know what kind of budget that works for all, we will help with choosing the best nutrition for the buck. You're in Sirius Cooks - you care about your pets health. There is no problem or stigma with purchasing a lower cost food. That's why we have varieties. (Heck, I'd be eating at Skrine Chops restaurant in Forest Park everyday if I could afford it. Maybe they'll give me some free food if we list their address? 7230 Madison Street, FP. --julie)
Third. The cheaper the cost, the more "filler" and "by-products" are in the food. Not good for health. We could sell you less expensive brands, yet over time, your pets health would decline. We don't want to even go there.
Fourth. Raw is expensive. Some veterinarians are now saying that feeding raw with kibble (which is a way to really stretch out that cost) is fine for the dog.
Sirius Cooks is always getting in new product and toys so be sure to stop by. Hello's and dogs (and brave cats) are always welcome.
Cheers!
Julie A. Kreiner & Harriet M. Coles
