Sirius Cooks in March
It's been a ride so far....
Thanks to you'all, your word-of-mouth, we have had the best February! I know it's March, but each month, we grow more and more.
We were in the Buzz Newsletter for March. For those not local, The Buzz is the local organic, healthy cafe in Oak Park. They highlight a business every month, and March was an interview with Sirius Cooks. They still have the newsletter at the Buzz (905 S. Lombard, Oak Park, IL) for the whole month.
We taught a class Cooking for Dogs at Flavour Cooking School in Forest Park on how to
make our TobyDog Beef Stew, Lucy Lapin buscuits and a healthy Frosty
Indiana dessert for dogs. Thanks to Denise (the owner) for inviting us back in a couple months to teach another class (we loved that gorgeous hand held food processor!)
We also taught how to read a dog/cat food
label and offered handouts on bad ingredients/fillers that are in some sub-par
foods. There were excellent questions from those who attended.
Thanks also go to Ken and Sara Arkow, who were our sous chefs, were our basic all-around "couldn't have done it without them" friends. So if you need to do your own cooking class (Sara is an excellent human baker - uh, we mean, baker for HUMANS), or need filming done by an expert Emmy-award-winning videograper, we'll lead you on to Sara and Ken. :)
Yes, Ken did filming of the class, so we will have something additional for our website. We also have a listing of recommended readings accessible from the front page of the website.
March also meant a March 5th article in the local paper Wednesday Journal. Ok, we weren't alone, but we were in the special pull-out section on Food. They met with the best of human restaurants, received recipes, and had a special section devoted to "Cooking for your Dogs" - they had a nice interview and listed one of our recipes.
Again - thank you for all your word-of-mouth work on our behalf! They wouldn't have known about us as much as the good words you spread about us.
St. Patrick's Day on the 17th
One of the Sirius Cooks is half Irish - guess which one.
To help celebrate St. Paddy's day - we are offering TWO Sirius Suppers™ made with USDA lamb: Deaglan's Irish Stew (WITHOUT grains) and Paddy's Stew with Barley for those dogs who can have grain. If your dog or cat wants more than one, please phone in an order (708.358.0100). If the luck of the leprechans hold, there will be a shamrock treat or two. :)
Comments from the survey
"Keep getting in more organic things"
We will certainly continue to do so.
Because these are not carried by the "major" distributors of dog and cat products, we have to contact the people directly. We research their information. We want to make certain that they can continue to fulfill orders so we have it in stock when you come in. (Yes, there are some people who make product when a order comes in - which means a lag-time of weeks.)
This month, the newest product in the store is thanks to Rachael H and Cha-cha. It comes from a local Illinois farm that raises Angora rabbits and sheep. No, we're not talking food. These are organic and hand-made catnip balls made from the sheep and Angora wool. Excellent toys for cats!
